The design is a little different now so I hope it fits my old plastic shell, looks ok. I use soap once in a while to make sure the plastic part is clean.
I clean it by tapping it gently upside down on a 1/2 sheet paper towel, wrapping the grounds for the compost, and running the filter under hot water immediately after use. Easy.
I am about to purchase a new 12 cup Swissgold filter to replace one that I bought in about 1985 and have used continually. I don't see why it is necessary to scrub it or put it in the dishwasher; there are no oils left on the mesh if you clean it promptly.
Gentle. Stays clean.
The sides have finally pulled away from one edge this year. That's quite a lot of paper saved over the years for less than $1 per year.
A quick rinse after that in the sink, and it's good to go to the drying rack before the next use.If you really have to tap your coffee filter violently against your garbage can lid to get the grinds out, maybe you have some other issues. Since that's the only way to remove wet grounds without washing them all down the drain, this filter is clearly too sensitive for me. This is a great little coffee filter, and I've been happily using it for over a year now.For some reason, every time I clean out the coffee grinds in my filter, my mind is reminded of the review that I read here on Amazon."The distributor says that the filter is very sensitive, and the cracks are from tapping the filter against the lid of the garbage can to get the grounds out. Maybe it is time to switch to decaf, clean a little more quickly after the coffee is done, or upgrade your coffee grinder (I can imagine a really fine grind might make things different).Separate from this mental reminder every time I clean the filter. Anyone who uses the tap technique should not purchase this item."Honestly, I don't know what this person's problem is. Maybe they leave their coffee grinds in the filter from Friday morning until the following Monday's pot of coffee, but I have never had any issues.I throw away my grinds in the garbage, and have never had to do anything more than a single swift flick of the wrist to get all the grinds out and into the garbage can. The metal filter is actually quite great for flavor enhancement of my coffee. And I don't waste coffee filters every day, cleanup is easier, and this particular filter has lasted a lot longer than the metal filter that came with my coffee maker.
We used paper filters and when we switched to the Swissgold filter, we noticed the change in the taste of the coffee, it was much better. My brother, who roasts his own coffee, recommended this filter. We are so happy that we bought it. If you love good coffee, this filter will allow all of the flavor to come through. I am very happy with it.
This Swissgold Cone-Shape Coffee Filter is just perfect. It cleans easily and save money.
Works great and cleans up easy. Can't compare it to less expensive options, but I would certainly purchase this again.
